West Ham United have been incredibly busy during this month’s transfer window.
During an interview with the club’s official website, West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan explained that the club are now looking to bring in more British players, following the capture of Robert Snodgrass from Hull City, in an attempt to create a better balance within the squad.
The Hammers season has suddenly taken a turn for the good over this past couple of weeks, with back-to-back wins in the Premier League combined with the signing of Jose Fonte and the aforementioned Snodgrass.
And Sullivan spoke to WHUFC.com, highlighting his delight that the club managed to get the deal for the Scotland international over the line, whilst sharing the direction in which the club want to go in relation to future transfers:
West Ham’s new signing Robert Snodgrass in action during his time with Hull City
“Robert Snodgrass is a very good player who is great when it comes to scoring and assisting goals, while his free-kicks and corners are among the best in the Premier League. He is proven in the Premier League and is British, and I must say we’d like to sign a few more British players to get a good balance in the squad alongside the outstanding players we have brought in from overseas.”
Brentford’s Scott Hogan celebrates
Another British player on the Hammers’ radar is Scott Hogan, although it still remains unclear as to whether they will match Brentford’s £15 million valuation of the player (Evening Standard).
One thing that is clear though, is that West Ham have managed to turn their season around, and for the first time this season, their is genuine optimism emanating from the club’s supporters and players.
And one more good signing could give them just the boost they need to force their way inside the top seven, and once again achieve qualification for the Europa League.
