Things are finally starting to look up for West Ham United.

When writing his regular column for the Newham Recorder, Hammers legend Tony Cottee offered his opinion on what would represent a realistic target for his former club this season.

West Ham have managed to turn their season around over the past month or so, with five wins from their last seven Premier League outings, and they now sit in 10th position in the table, just eight points adrift of seventh placed Everton.

And Cottee, who spent eight years with West Ham over the course of two separate spells, shared how high he believes his former club can finish, when writing his column for the Newham Recorder:

“We are now in the top 10 and I can see us finishing as high as eighth. Hopefully, Dimitri Payet will have gone by the end of the window and we have brought a couple in, no more than that. COYI!”

With just four days until the January transfer window slams shut, the club must surely reach common ground with Marseille in regards to Payet. There will be absolutely no sense in keeping him at the club, unless he plays a part in the Hammers season from now until May – something that seems totally untenable what with the ill feeling towards him in and around the club.

And if Slaven Bilic manages to bring in some quality additions, there is every chance that West Ham could push Everton for the final Europa League spot, and surpass Cottee’s prediction.
