Craig Gordon reportedly wants talks over his Celtic future today.
According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon will hold crunch talks with the club today, as he wants the opportunity to speak to Chelsea about a move to Stamford Bridge.
Gordon, 34, joined he Bhoys in 2014 after two years out of the game, and he was thrust into becoming Celtic’s first-choice goalkeeper following Fraser Forster’s move to Southampton.
Celtic’s Craig Gordon gestures
Gordon has been outstanding for Celtic ever since his move, and he has resurrected his career with the club having been on the scrapheap following his departure from Sunderland in 2012.
Now though, interest in Gordon’s signature is – somewhat surprisingly – mounting ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline, with Premier League leaders Chelsea keen to land the Scot.
Celtic’s Craig Gordon surrounded by green smoke
Chelsea could sell Asmir Begovic to Bournemouth, but manager Antonio Conte wants a replacement goalkeeper before allowing the Bosnian to leave the club, and Gordon has become their top target.
Sky Sports claimed on Thursday that Celtic had rejected a bid from Chelsea for Gordon, but The Scottish Sun now report that the veteran shot stopper wants crunch talks over his future today, as he wants to at least speak to Chelsea about a move.
It’s stated that Chelsea are not only preparing a new bid for Gordon, but are willing to offer him big money to make the move to West London, meaning Celtic may find themselves in an uncomfortable position as they attempt to keep Gordon at Celtic Park.
Gordon fought off competition from Dorus de Vries to cement his place as Celtic’s first-choice goalkeeper earlier this season, and whilst Brendan Rodgers has a ready-made replacement if Gordon does go, he won’t want to lose his top goalkeeper just days before the transfer deadline, meaning today’s alleged talks could be huge.
