Preston North End have turned down a second bid of £2million from Championship rivals Ipswich Town for star striker Jordan Hugill.

As revealed by HITC Sport earlier this month Ipswich had an initial offer of £1.5million rejected for Hugill with Preston keen to keep hold of the powerful forward.

Ipswich are refusing to give up on their pursuit of Hugill and increased their offer for the 24-year-old to £2million which again has been rejected by Preston.

Hugill has impressed at Preston since joining from Port Vale in 2014 after starting his career in non-league football.

The 24-year-old has scored eight goals in 29 appearances for the Lilywhites so far this season, including two goals in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa as Preston battled back from 2-0 down to earn a point.

Ipswich boss Mick McCarty is keen to add to his attacking options before the close of the transfer window and has made Hugill his top target.

It remains to be seen if Ipswich will come back with a third offer for Middlesbrough-born front man with Preston reluctant to lose Hugill as they see him as someone who is key to their future plans.
