The Wolverhampton Wanderers defender has impressed Paul Lambert this season.
When speaking to the Express & Star for an exclusive interview, Wolves boss Paul Lambert raved about Matt Doherty, highlighting the defender’s consistency as something that has proved vital to his side’s defensive displays.
The Black Country outfit were in the midst of a mini revival, before their unfortunate defeat against Norwich City at the weekend – a game in which Doherty had to play in goal for the final 15 minutes, after Carl Ikeme’s sending off.
Lambert’s men now sit in 18th position in the Championship table, but are still only 13 points adrift of the play-off spots, and with a sustained run of victories, who knows where they could end up?

Confidence is still running high at the Molineux, with Lambert’s belief in his side unwavering.
And no player deserves praise more than Doherty, according to the Wolves manager, who cited his switch to left-back as a key turning point in the defender’s career, as quoted by the Express & Star:
“Matt’s been brilliant. I think he’s been fantastic. Since he switched over to left back it seems he’s been great for us – one of the most consistent players in the league, let alone our team. People liken him to Denis Irwin… if you get linked with that kind of accolade it’s a hell of a thing, the way he was as a player. He’s been great and he’s scored four goals and got a few assists. He’s so unassuming – you look at him and think ‘what is he?’ but he’s just been fantastic for me.”

The 25-year-old has been with Wolves for his entire career, although he did spend two separate spells away form the club on loan at Hibernian and Bury Town respectively.
And if he continues to show the kind of form that he as been of late, it would be no surprise if a Premier League club were to come in for him over the next couple of transfer windows.
