Sources claim that the French club will not pay above £25 million for Payet - who earlier this month announced he no longer wanted to play for Slaven Bilic's side.

It is claimed a split has emerged between Marseille officials, with some wanting to abandon their pursuit of the 29-year-old and some still keen to continue negotiations.

With West Ham's owners stating their is no financial pressure to sell the 29 year-old this month, interested parties would likely have to pay in the region of £35 million, according to ESPN FC.

With reports also surfacing in The Sun that Dimitri Payet's family have become unsettled in the capital, a move away from the Premier League would seem to be the only solution.

Since his initial move from Marseille in 2015 - where he scored 15 goals in two seasons - for a fee BBC Sport reported to be in excess of £10 million, Payet has scored 11 times for West Ham, but more importantly has amassed 21 top-flight assists.

The Frenchman continues to train with the U23 side, with his future now out of his hands.

With the window closing on January 31 at 11pm, its is believed Marseille could yet pursue a deadline-day loan move for Payet, but with Slaven Bilic keen to still keep hold of his man, that remains to be seen.
