Everton have reportedly entered the race to sign one of Aston Villa's primary transfer targets.

Everton could challenge Aston Villa for the signature of Wolfsburg winger Anton Donkor, with German football website SportBuzzer claiming that the Toffees have tracked the 19-year-old since his impressive showings in the UEFA Champions League youth competition.

Aston Villa were thought to be leading the race for the teenager, and Donkor himself told reporters that his agent had already held discussions with he Midlands club regarding a potential move to Villa Park, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail:

"Yes, my agent has had contact with Aston Villa. In order to further develop myself, a loan to England would surely be a good thing.”

But after Ronald Koeman allowed Gerard Deulofeu to leave Goodison Park, the Dutchman's need for further firepower in wide attacking areas has become more pressing, and SportBuzzer claim that Donkor is emerged as a prime target for Everton.

The 19-year-old is highly regarded in his homeland, but is clearly not yet the finished article.

And whether a switch to England, at either Championship or Premier League level, would suit his game is still very much up for debate.

Although, with both Villa and Everton in desperate need of attacking reinforcements, along with their penchant for recruiting youngsters, Donkor moving to either side would not be a surprise in any way shape of form.
