The 21-year-old endured a difficult loan spell under Steve Bruce at Hull City but they could be reunited at Aston Villa.

Ross McCormack’s little ‘indiscretion’ could hardly be more ill-timed. With Jonathan Kodjia away at the African Cup of Nations, Rudy Gestede wearing Middlesbrough red and Gabby Agbonlahor’s goal drought stretching over twelve months, it’s little surprise the Birmingham Mail reports that Aston Villa are desperately searching for alternative options to ease their striker shortage.

However, on paper alone, Chuba Akpom is not the man to turn Villa’s sequence of 1-0 defeats and frustrating draws into vital three point hauls. After all, a loan spell under Bruce at Hull City last season yielded just three goals in 36 Championship appearances.

The only three goals of his professional career in league football.

The Birmingham Mail reports that Arsenal are prepared to loan him out again in January and, although his performances for the club’s eminent academy suggests he deserves more time to showcase his potential at senior level, the 21-year-old has done very little so far to suggest he can make the grade at the top of the English game.

Consequently, Villa fans are rather concerned about his potential arrival. Especially now it appears that Jordan Rhodes, a prolific Championship goalscorer, has slipped through their grasp.
