HITC Sport understands Sunderland will sell the left-back but not Lamine Kone.

Crystal Palace are set to clinch a deal a deal for Patrick van Aanholt, but his Sunderland team-mate Lamine Kone will not be arriving this month, HITC Sport understands.

Eagles boss Sam Allardyce is a huge fan of both left-back van Aanholt and centre-half Kone, following their time together at Sunderland.

Allardyce was hoping to get both – but he will now have make do with just van Aanholt. The Dutch left-back will arrive on a deal with just over £7million, HITC Sport understands, and the move should be completed by this weekend.

Van Aanholt is a popular figure at The Stadium of Light, having joined from Chelsea in 2014, and seeing him leave will be a blow to the club’s fans – especially as he is joining a relegation rival in the shape of Palace.

However, they will be buoyed by the news that Sunderland have rebuffed Palace’s fresh attempts to land Kone – with Sunderland not allowing him to leave for anything less than his release clause of £18million.

Palace were willing to pay around £18million combined for Kone and van Aanholt, but not just on the Ivory Coast centre-back.

The money from van Aanholt could allow boss David Moyes some late moves in the transfer market, whilst Palace’s business is far from done.

They remain keen on Arsenal’s Carl Jenkinson and Stewart Downing of Middlesbrough – both of whom Allardyce has worked with before, as well as former Blackburn Rovers centre-half Chris Samba.
