Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has conceded defeat in his pursuit of Jordan Rhodes.
Aston Villa are ready to bid for Burnley striker Ashley Barnes after Steve Bruce conceded defeat in his pursuit of Middlesbrough’s Jordan Rhodes, according to the Independent.
HITC sources understand that Boro are holding out for around £10 million for Rhodes, from whom Villa and Sheffield Wednesday have seen £6 million bids turned down.

Barnes, however, could cost less than half that amount, with the Independent’s report claiming Burnley would sell the Austrian if Villa offer close to £5 million.
The 27-year-old has started only six games for Sean Dyche’s side this season and is reportedly open to stepping down to a division from which he has been promoted in two of the previous three campaigns, providing he is granted regular first team football.
Burnley’s Ashley Barnes takes aim
Villa, who have struggled for goals in the absence of African pair Jonathan Kodjia and Jordan Ayew, have been left with a striking vacancy after selling Rudy Gestede to Boro at the start of the month and could throw Barnes straight into action if a move goes ahead.
Barnes began his career at Plymouth Argyle before moving on to Burnley via Brighton & Hove Albion.
