HITC Sport understands Barnsley star eyes Villa move
Conor Hourihane celebrates scoring for Barnsley
Barnsley midfielder Conor Hourihane is hoping to win a move to Aston Villa, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
As revealed by HITC Sport earlier this month, Villa were lining up a move for Hourihane as Steve Bruce looks to bolster his midfield options at Villa Park.
Hourihane’s future at Barnsley has been the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks with the goal-scoring midfielder out of contract at the end of the season and yet to sign a new deal.
Sheffield Wednesday have expressed an interest in signing Hourihane during this month’s transfer window, but Villa are hoping to beat their Championship rivals to the Irishman.
Aston Villa Manager Steve Bruce
Bruce has worked with Hourihane before when he was in charge at Sunderland and Villa believe the fact the player is keen on a move to be reunited with Bruce gives them the upper hand in the battle for Hourihane’s signature.
Barnsley are reluctant to lose Hourihane this month despite the prospect of seeing him run down his contract and leave for free in the summer.
Hourihane is hoping a deal can be struck with Villa this month or he is prepared to wait until his contract expires to make the switch to Villa Park.
