HITC Sport understands Newcastle striker is set for Scunthorpe loan.
Scunthorpe United are set to win the race to sign Newcastle United striker Ivan Toney on loan, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Toney has only recently return to Newcastle after a six-month loan spell at Shrewsbury, where he scored seven goals in 26 appearances.
Newcastle are happy to loan out Toney again for the second half of the season so that he can continue his development by playing regular first-team football.
Toney joined Newcastle in summer 2015 Northampton Town and he made four appearances in his debut season for the then Premier League club.
A number of League One clubs have expressed an interest in signing Toney, but promotion hopefuls Scunthorpe are poised to land the highly-rated 20-year-old.
Scunthorpe are currently in second spot in League One and Iron boss Graham Alexander sees Toney as someone who can fire the goals to maintain their bid for promotion to the Championship.
Alexander has already brought in a new striker this month in the shape of Craig Davies from Wigan and he could now pair him in a new-look attack alongside Toney.
If Scunthorpe tie up a move for Toney he could make his debut for the club against former employers Northampton Town.
