Alex Mowatt has provided an indication of where he hopes his immediate future will lie after insisting that he is enjoying life at Leeds United, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports
The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that the 21-year-old is out of contract at the end of the campaign, and while talks have been held with the midfielder and his agent, an agreement is yet to be reached regarding an extension.
Leeds' Alex Mowatt
A few years ago when the academy graduate burst onto the scene, it would be unthinkable to imagine that the Whites would allow Mowatt's contract to run down unless it was obvious that he was moving on to the Premier League. Liverpool were keeping a keen eye on the youngster in 2015, according to the Mirror.
However, the last couple of seasons have been much more of a struggle for the one-time England under-20 international and it now appears a very real possibility that he could leave Elland Road at the end of the campaign.
But Mowatt provided another glimpse of the quality he possesses as he ran the show from a Leeds perspective during their FA Cup third round tie against Cambridge. And speaking after the victory - which saw him score the winner after setting up the Peacocks' equaliser - he hinted that he is not considering a move away.
Leeds' Alex Mowatt and Brighton's Biram Kayal
"I'm enjoying it at Leeds," he said, as reported by Yorkshire Evening Post. "It's the only place I know where to play."
Though Mowatt's form has dipped over the last couple of years, there have been several occasions during that time when the midfielder has been the one to step up and produce something special like he did regularly when he emerged into the first-team.
And for that reason, it is surely on Garry Monk's mind that he needs to try and find the ideal role for Mowatt before his contract expires and he gets the opportunity to realise his potential elsewhere.
