Sunderland midfielder Honeyman eyed by Wigan

Wigan manager Warren Joyce

HITC Sport understands Wigan are eying Sunderland midfielder George Honeyman on loan.

Sunderland midfielder George Honeyman is a target for Wigan Athletic on loan, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Wigan boss Warren Joyce is determined to bolster his squad during this month's transfer window and he has been keeping tabs on Honeyman.

Joyce sees Honeyman as someone who can add to Wigan's attacking options as he looks to lift his side clear of relegation trouble at the wrong end of the Championship.

Honeyman has come through the ranks at Sunderland, and he is highly-regarded within the corridors of power at the Stadium of Light.

The 22-year-old made his first-team debut for Sunderland in the FA Cup against Bradford in the 2014-15 season, and he made his Premier League debut in the final game of last season at Watford.

Honeyman has been named on the bench for several Sunderland games this season, and Black Cats boss David Moyes must decide if he wants to send the attacking midfielder on loan to gain valuable first-team experience.

Wigan are expected to be busy in the transfer window this month, and HITC Sport understands they have already agreed a loan deal for Stoke City goalkeeper Jakob Haugaard.
