Celtic star Moussa Dembele is proving to be one of the signings of last summer, and West Ham United have been linked with a move for the Frenchman.
Speaking to Sky Sports reporters, and broadcast on the channel at 12:08 on January 6th, Celtic assistant manager Chris Davies provided an update regarding West Ham’s potential interest in star striker Moussa Dembele.
The 20-year-old hitman has been a revelation for the Hoops, since his move to Parkhead on a free transfer in the summer, and he has scored 19 goals in 36 outings for the club so far this term.
Celtic’s Moussa Dembele during the match
His spectacular form has seen him linked with a big money move away from the club this January, including a reported offer of £20 million from the Hammers (the Mirror).
Davies, however, responded emphatically to talk of such a bid, telling Sky Sports:
“That is definitely well below his valuation, that’s for sure. I think the manager has spoken pretty clearly on that situation, there’s been no formal bid or anything like that. We know this is the best place for Moussa to develop. Ultimately though, any player in the world has a valuation. The club will always take everything into consideration. But like I say, it’s all speculation. Moussa’s happy, we’re working hard, and that’s that.”
Celtic’s Moussa Dembele in action
The real challenge for the Glasgow giants will be to keep hold of Dembele beyond the end of this current season, and with many of Europe’s biggest cubs showing interest in the French youngster, that will be easier said than done.
The one major factor in Celtic’s favour, however, is that Dembele does seem to be very happy at the club, and the more success Brendan Rodgers’ can guide them to, the more chance they will have of keeping hold of their star man.
