Dele Alli scored a brace as Tottenham Hotspur end Chelsea’s unbeaten Premier League streak with a 2-0 victory at White Hart Lane. Here’s how Spurs’ players rated.
GK: Hugo Lloris (7/10) – Despite not being tested on too many occasions, Tottenham’s ‘sweeper-keeper’ had to remain alert to deny Eden Hazard and Diego Costa in particular.
CB: Eric Dier (7/10) – Perhaps should have done better with a far post header just before the half-time break, but Dier was impressive from a defensive stance as part of a trio of Spurs central defenders. For the most part, Dier handled the threat posed by Chelsea’s Hazard.
CB: Toby Alderweireld (8/10) – A no-nonsense approach from the middle of Spurs’ three man back-line. Alderweireld limited Chelsea’s Diego Costa in an equally physical contest between the two, with the Spurs defender winning many an aerial duel, combined with considered positioning throughout.
CB: Jan Vertonghen (7.5/10) – The composed Vertonghen is well suited to Spurs’ chosen formation as the left sided central defender. The Belgium international’s distribution and defensive know-how was on full display against an always-threatening Chelsea attack.
RWB: Kyle Walker (6/10) – Despite his typically admirable work rate on Spurs’ right side, Walker was unable to impact on the game as per usual. His duel with Chelsea’s Marco Alonso seemed to subdue Walker’s effectiveness – although the England full back was able to link up with Christian Eriksen to good effect.
CM: Victor Wanyama (7.5/10) – Dragged a shot wide mid way through the first half, but spent the majority of the game behind the ball – doing a typically combative defensive job in fragmenting Chelsea counter attacks, with the occasional foul and almost customary yellow card thrown in for good measure.
CM: Mousa Dembele (7/10) – Another powerful, precise performance from Dembele – who is quickly becoming indispensible on Mauricio Pochettino’s team sheet. Dembele and Wanyama continued to compliment each other in the middle of Spurs’ midfield, until Harry Winks replaced the 29-year-old for the final 15 minutes.
LWB: Danny Rose (8/10) – An impressive start to the game from the England international, who caused Chelsea’s right flank no end of problems with his energetic showing. Rose was on the receiving end of many a foul, as Chelsea struggled to contain his always-forward thinking approach.
AM: Christian Eriksen (8.5/10) – Almost tested Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois with a 25-yard shot after 23 minutes and looked at his creative best both from set plays and when floating around Spurs’ attacking third. Unsurprisingly, it was Eriksen who provided the accurate assist for the game’s opening goal. Eriksen and Dele Alli combined to create both the first and second goals with canny resemblances.
AM: Dele Alli (9/10) – The young England international took a while to find his place in the game, but despite a relatively poor first 45 minutes Alli constantly tried to get on the ball and impact on the encounter. It was the 20-year-old’s headed goal that broke the deadlock in first half stoppage time. Alli replicated his first goal with a 53rd minute header to put his side 2-0 ahead. Received a standing ovation when replaced by Moussa Sissoko for the closing stages.
FW: Harry Kane (6/10) – The front man experienced a far-from emphatic game and appeared on the periphery of the proceedings. This was certainly not one for the Kane highlight reel.
