Tottenham Hotspur beat Watford 4-1 in their most recent fixture.
Mauricio Pochettino has told Tottenham Hotspur’s official website that Kevin Wimmer and Kieran Trippier’s performances for his side against Watford were ‘fantastic news’ for the team.
Wimmer and Trippier were both selected to start at Vicarage Road yesterday, and the pair shone in Spurs’ 4-1 victory.
Wimmer was solid at the back, while Trippier claimed two assists in the contest while playing at right-wing back.
And Pochettino said: “They were fantastic, both showed great quality.
“It’s always difficult to play when you don’t play normally but I am very pleased and I congratulate them. It was a fantastic effort to make us better, more competitive and that is fantastic news for the team.”
Trippier and Wimmer have both had to watch from the sidelines for much of the season to date, but their performances caught the eye against Watford.
Trippier first played a brilliant pass to Harry Kane to open the scoring, before delivering a wonderful cross for the striker to add a second.
The display of the former Burnley man has put Kyle Walker’s position in the team under some threat, although it would be a surprise if the England international did not start against Chelsea in Spurs’ next match.
Tottenham’s win at Watford has lifted them above Manchester City, and into fourth place in the Premier League table.
