Sunderland boss says this young star has been more impressive than Tottenham Hotspur pair.

Speaking to reporters during his pre-match press conference, Black Cats boss David Moyes raved about Jordan Pickford, after the young goalkeeper was unfortunately ruled out for up to two months with a knee injury, as quoted by the Daily Star.

The 22-year-old's emergence on to the scene has been quite spectacular, and his importance to Moyes' side is underlined by how much of a blow his absence will be to their hopes of avoiding relegation.

Pickford began the season as Sunderland's back-up goalkeeper, but an injury to Vito Mannone in August presented him with the opportunity to prove himself.

And prove himself he did. The young stopper has been in sensational form for the Black Cats, arguably winning games single-handedly by making key saves at crucial points during matches.

And Moyes highlighted how much of a miss Pickford will be for his side during his impeding absence, as quoted by the Daily Star:

"It's a massive blow because he really has been outstanding. Of all the British talent that has really come through in the last year or so, the Harry Kane's and Dele Alli's if you asked me who is the best young English player to emerge, I'd be hard pushed to pick anyone better than Jordan Pickford."

The Tottenham pair are both regulars for England, so Moyes' words are bold to say the least, and Pickford has a long way to go before he proves himself to be elite at the highest level.

In the meantime, Sunderland fans will be hoping that their side can cope during his absence, and begin to climb their way out of relegation trouble.
