Poll: Most impressive Championship result of 2016?

Dwight Gayle celebrates scoring the fourth goal for Newcastle United

Results from Newcastle, Huddersfield, Middlesbrough, Leeds and Fulham have been selected for this poll.

Here at HITC Sport we are conducting a poll to find out which Championship result has been the most impressive this year. As England's second league continues to prove how competitive it is, the fans have been treated to some truly astounding performances as the teams continue to step up their game. While there was no shortage of performances to choose from, we have whittled the contenders down to the following five results:

Newcastle United 4 Norwich City 3 - 28/09/2016

It seemed as though Newcastle's good form was going to be obliterated by Norwich as the Canaries raced into a 3-1 lead after 69 minutes. The players and fans were left shellshocked by the scoreline, however, neither were willing to let the other down as the Toon Army united superbly to turn the tide. Dwight Gayle scored his second of the day to make it 3-2 before Yoan Gouffran scored in the 95th minute to make it 3-3. The celebrations had barely begun to reduce as Dwight Gayle completed his hat-trick in the 96th minute to send St James' Park into a frenzy. It was a truly unbelievable result.

It still remains one of the biggest shocks of this campaign. Nakhi Wells opened the scoring for the visitors before half-time only for Dwight Gayle to strike in the 60th minute to level proceedings as many assumed the Magpies would restore the supposed natural order of the game. However, Jack Payne found the net with eight minutes to go as Huddersfield held on for a famous win. The defeat consigned Newcastle to two defeats in their opening two games and set the visitors off on a run that continues to see them reside in a play-off place.

Middlesbrough 1 Brighton and Hove Albion 1 - 07/05/2016

The game was always going to end in heartbreak for one of the two sides as both knew a win would see them ascend to the Premier League in second place. The hosts had the advantage though as they knew a draw would send them up on goal difference and that is exactly what happened. Cristhian Stuani's goal was enough to see Middlesbrough to a draw as Brighton could only muster one goal from Dale Stephens in the 55th minute. The tense affair ended Middlesbrough's seven year Premier League absence and sent the home support into raptures, while the visitors faced a difficult, and long, trip home.

Norwich City 2 Leeds United 3 - 05/11/2016

Leeds' 3-2 win over Norwich was as impressive as it was surprising given that it was the result that instilled so much belief in Garry Monk's team. Talismanic defender Pontus Jansson scored in the 57th minute to make it 1-1 before in-form striker Chris Wood made it 2-1. Kyle Lafferty found the net in the 88th minute as both sets of fans seemed contented with a draw, however, Ronaldo Viera decided to channel his namesake as he scored a late winner to send his team and their fans into wild celebrations. The goal capped off an incredible comeback and a superb performance from the Yorkshire side.

Fulham 5 Huddersfield Town 0 - 29/10/2016

It was an amazing day for the London side as they tore Huddersfield apart. For a side that had been so good defensively up until this point, the result was a real statement from Fulham. Chris Martin netted twice, while Tomas Kalas, Lucas Piazon and Kevin McDonald all found the net for the hosts as they blew their opponents away. Incredibly, Fulham had actually not won at Craven Cottage since their opening day win over Newcastle, making this performance even more impressive as it has seen the London side move up the table as they continue to battle for a play off spot.
