At the heart of most title-chasing sides, there is always a steady and consistent figure in-between the posts. Looking back at some of the most successful sides in the Premier League over the years, they all have one thing in common: a consistent goalkeeper, often over a long period of time. Names like David Seaman, Edwin van der Sar and Petr Cech all ring true with clubs who stuck with their number 1 through thick and thin, and reaped the rewards of that loyalty.
Liverpool have, unfortunately, not been so lucky with goalkeepers. After sticking with Spaniard Pepe Reina for a number of years, Liverpool have cycled through a number of goalkeepers since his departure, such as Australian Brad Jones, SImon Mignolet and now, German keeper Loris Karius. The latter, much like those that have preceded him, has had a difficult start to life at Anfield, after making a number of high profile mistakes in fixtures against Bournemouth and West Ham, causing some Liverpool fans to wonder whether Karius is set to be another more goalkeeping acquisition.
With this in mind, HITC Sport asked Liverpool fans what they thought about their new keeper.
Liverpool's Loris Karius warms up
"There's no curse going on, he's just an unlucky lad" suggested one fan, who was quick to defend Liverpool's new keeper. Other fans were quick to compare Loris Karius to the Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, who also had a tricky start to his time in the Premier League. Since then, De Gea has gone on to be recognised as one of the world's best goalkeepers, and some Liverpool fans believe that, if given the time to get it right, Karius could also end up hitting those levels.
