They were unable to do that, though, as a late goal from defender Ashley Williams saw Ronald Koeman’s side leave with all three points.

Replays subsequently showed that Ozil had lost the Welshman in the box and allowed him to head home the 96th-minute winner.
That naturally enraged the Gunners faithful but Gale has moved to defend the Germany international. He told Sky Sports:
"I don't think you can blame Ozil for a centre-back coming up and scoring a header.”
“What you've got is people marking in zones. As far as defenders are concerned whether your man marking or zonal marking [you] head the ball, just attack the ball.”
"As for Ozil, he hasn't got that instinct. I wouldn't have had him there. You're looking at Koscielny and the other ones to attack that ball."
Arsenal's Mesut Ozil
It will be interesting to see how that late goal from Williams ends up affecting Arsenal’s title bid this season.
The defeat left them six points behind leaders Chelsea after Antonio Conte’s side won away at Sunderland.
That is a difficult gap to close up given the form the Blues are showing and it will be difficult for the Gunners to catch up, even with 20 games of the season remaining.
If these dropped points end up costing Arsenal in the title race, perhaps Ozil’s failure to challenge Williams in this situation will be a moment many look back on as a key moment.
