A number of fans of Championship clubs wouldn’t mind want Rowett in charge where they are.

Perhaps Stan Collymore said it best, on Twitter of course; “Who are they expecting next, Pep.”

Take a few seconds to scroll through social media and you’ll find that not a lot of people agree with Birmingham City’s decision to part ways with manager Gary Rowett. When he took over what appeared an impossible job October 2014, The Blues were one solitary point off the bottom of the Championship.

And now, following two top half finishes, a push for promotion didn’t look beyond a side that was nothing short of a shambles prior to his arrival.

Yes, consecutive defeats to Barnsley and Newcastle, with an aggregate score of 7-0, slightly scratched the sheen of what has been another impressive campaign to date but Birmingham looked to have gotten back on track with a 2-1 win against Ipswich Town on Tuesday.

Less than 24 hours later, however, one of the greatest managers in the club’s recent history has gone. They are, just to remind you, seventh in the Championship table. And Pep is very happy where he is at the moment.

And, while The Blues’ fans console themselves on Twitter and take out their anger via caps lock and emojis, rival fans are sensing an opportunity. It’s not every day a manager of Rowett’s ability becomes available after all.
