Tottenham Hotspur bounced back from their weekend defeat with an emphatic victory.
Tottenham Hotspur bounced back following their weekend defeat to Manchester United by claiming an impressive 3-0 victory over Hull City on Wednesday. And while he did not get on the scoresheet or contribute an assist, it was the performance of Toby Alderweireld that deserves to be talked about if the statistics are anything to go by.
The Belgian recently spent almost two months out of the team due to injury, but came back into the side with a substitute appearance against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League before following it up with a start at Old Trafford.
Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld
But it was against the Tigers where he demonstrated just how important he can be, as while Mike Phelan's side were never expected to ask many questions of Tottenham, he clearly did what he needed to do with minimal fuss.
|Blocks||Total tackles||Tackles won||Total clearances||Duels won||Total passes||Accurate passes|
He topped the table amongst the Spurs players when it came to blocks, tackles attempted and tackles won during the clash at White Hart Lane.
He also came out on top when it came to making clearances, and also managed to win three duels.
But perhaps most importantly on a night when Tottenham were expected to dominate and win comfortably, it was his passing accuracy that deserves the most praise as he found a teammate with 51 of the 56 passes he attempted.
And Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping that the centre-back can stay fit now as he could have a big role to play if they hope to mount any kind of title bid.
