Next month could be a pivotal one for Sunderland as they attempt to get themselves out of trouble.
Sunderland chief executive Martin Bain has described the transfer budget that David Moyes will have to work with during the January transfer window as limited, The Sun reports.
Despite their recent revival, the Black Cats currently sit at the bottom of the Premier League table and are two points adrift of safety.

And with Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool ahead in their next five games, Moyes’ men arguably face an uphill battle if they hope to go into the window without their survival hopes being dented further.
Nevertheless, Bain has issued the warning that most Sunderland fans desperately did not want to hear as he provided an insight into what the window may look like at the Stadium of Light.
“The word I’ve got for you is limited,” he said, as reported by The Sun, when asked what the budget may look like.
“I could probably say very limited with regards to the January transfer window.”

While Sunderland’s track record when it has come to spending money over the last few years has been inconsistent to say the least, it is surely fair to say that it was their spending last January that saved their season.
Lamine Kone, Jan Kirchhoff and Wahbi Khazri’s arrivals were instrumental in taking the club away from danger before the curtain came down on the campaign.
But it appears, on this occasion, that if Sunderland are to pull off another great escape, their heroes are going to have to come from players already in the squad.
