Rio Ferdinand is reportedly looking to become West Ham’s new defensive coach.
According to the Daily Mail, ex-West Ham United defender and current BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand has offered his services as a defensive coach to his former club.
The Hammers were thrashed 5-1 at home by London rivals Arsenal on Saturday evening, in yet another disastrous showing and another dreadful defensive performance.

In Premier League games this season, West Ham have conceded three goals to Manchester City, Southampton and Tottenham, four goals to Watford and West Bromwich Albion, and now five goals to Arsenal.
Saturday’s result means that West Ham have now conceded a whopping 29 goals in just 14 games, and only bottom club Swansea have conceded more, leaking 31 goals so far in their 14 games.
West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic
West Ham’s defensive woes could cost them their Premier League status, and whilst manager Slaven Bilic may look for defensive recruits during the January transfer window, he appears to have been offered help from a former team-mate.
The Daily Mail report that Rio Ferdinand has offered to become West Ham’s new defensive coach, having played alongside Bilic in the Hammers back line during the 1990’s.
BT Sport’s Rio Ferdinand
Ferdinand, 38, started his career with West Ham and racked up more than 150 appearances for the club before joining Leeds United, Manchester United and Queen Park Rangers, and is now working for BT Sport as a pundit.
One of the finest defenders of his generation, Ferdinand is now looking to get into coaching, and has offered his services to the West Ham board as he wants to help former team-mate Bilic – but whether the under-fire Croatian will accept the offer remains to be seen.
