Glasgow Rangers midfielder Josh Windass is on the radar of English Championship rivals Derby County and Newcastle United, according to the Scottish Sun.
Windass has impressed since joining Rangers from Accrington Stanley in July, but could be sold to fund Mark Warburton’s January recruits.
The Ibrox chief is seeking reinforcements after Niko Kranjcar was ruled out for the rest of the campaign and has been linked with a move Brentford star Jota – who was once a target for Derby.
Rams boss Steve McClaren – who was sacked by Newcastle earlier this year – is seeking his first signings since returning to Pride Park this autumn and is known to be looking north of the border, having attended Rangers defeat against Hearts last Wednesday.
McClaren later confirmed that Hearts quartet Callum Paterson, Josh Souttar, Jamie Walker and Bjorn Johnsen were all on his radar, although Windass missed the game with a hamstring injury.
Newcastle are also said to be considering the 22-year-old as they look to reinforce their own promotion push. The Magpies were linked with a summer move for Brentford playmaker Alan Judge, but the Irishman is yet to recover from a broken leg suffered in April.
And Windass, who scored 17 goals for Accrington last season, could tick the box, albeit as a more long-term alternative to Judge, who turned 28 last month.
Several English sides were reportedly keen on signing Windass at the end of his Stanley contract in June, however Rangers took advantage of FIFA regulations to secure the player for minimal compensation – far less than any club south of the border would have had to pay.
