Rangers boss Mark Warburton is reportedly deciding whether to bring Diego Fabbrini to Ibrox.
According to the Daily Record, Birmingham City’s Diego Fabbrini is not Rangers’ top target for the January transfer window – but Mark Warburton is deciding whether to accept taking him on loan with a view to a permanent deal.
The Gers have suffered a number of injury blows in midfield this season, with Niko Kranjcar out for the season and both Matt Crooks and Jordan Rossiter suffering a number of niggling problems, whilst Joey Barton has been released from his contract.

A new midfielder is at the top of Warburton’s wish list for the January transfer window, and a playmaker has been offered to the Ibrox club as a possible solution to those midfield woes.
The Daily Record report that Birmingham City have offered playmaker Diego Fabbrini to Rangers, after the Italian became something of a bit-part figure under Gary Rowett this season.
Whilst it’s claimed that Fabbrini isn’t Warburton’s top target – that’s believed to be Eibar star Jota, according to The Scottish Sun after they worked together at Brentford – Warburton will consider Birmingham’s offer.

That deal would involve taking Fabbrini on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent move, and Warburton will now decide whether he fits the bill for Rangers.
The 26-year-old only penned a permanent deal with Birmingham in January having starred on loan at Middlesbrough, but has started only one Championship game this season, and played just 158 minutes of action as he has fallen down the pecking order at St. Andrews.

Manager Rowett is clearly willing to let Fabbrini move on in January, but whether he is what Rangers are looking for is another matter. Fabbrini has spent most of his career – in Italy and in England – playing as a No. 10 rather than a central midfielder, and whilst he can play as the most advanced player in Warburton’s three-man midfield, it’s not an ideal fit on paper.
Fabbrini does have talent though, possessing pace and dribbling ability, and Warburton should seriously consider bringing the former Watford man to Ibrox during the January transfer window.
