HITC Sport understands £10 million will be enough to land Scottish ace

Middlesbrough have told clubs interested in landing Jordan Rhodes that he will cost £10million, HITC Sport understands.

HITC Sport understands Aston Villa are leading the chase to land Rhodes, after Steve Bruce made him his number one target for January.

Boro boss Aitor Karanka has never been convinced by Rhodes since his arrival at the club and has started just 14 games for the club, and his 22 appearances has scored just six times - indeed the Scottish international is yet to score at The Riverside Stadium.

Bruce, though, believes Rhodes is the ideal man to lead Villa back to the Premier League and he is willing to sacrifice one of their big summer signings Ross McCormack to help finance the deal, with Norwich understood to be keen on the former Fulham and Leeds man.

Sheffield Wednesday, who like Villa had loan bids rejected for Rhodes in the summer, remain interested and could yet make a rival bid.

HITC Sport understands Karanka wants to sign at least one new striker in January and is happy for Rhodes and David Nugent to move on. Nugent arrived in 2014 from Leicester.

One name who Boro are keeping close tabs on is Red Bull Salzburg star striker Jonathan Soriano. He is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury but Karanka is a long-term fan and has encouraged the club to make a move for the prolific 31-year-old who has scored 200 goals in just over five seasons in Austria.
