The French play-maker did not have a successful time at Newcastle United.
When Newcastle United signed Remy Cabella from Montpellier it was hailed by many Ligue 1 observers as a canny piece of business.
After all, here was a player who scored 14 goals and provided seven assists in his final season in France, but that was as good as it got for him.
Cabella’s one and only season in England resulted in a single goal and two assists in 34 games for the Magpies, and it was no surprise when he headed back to his homeland for a loan spell at Marseille.
That season ended with six goals and three assists – enough to convince the French giants to end Cabella’s Newcastle nightmare for good. So how has he fared since?
This season things have not exactly gone according to plan, with the 26-year-old only making a meaningful impact in one game to date, scoring and assisting in a 2-0 victory against Lorient.
That match aside, the former Newcastle player has done little of note in nine other appearances, playing a bit-part role in recent games against Bordeaux, Monaco and his former club Montpellier.
In hindsight perhaps the player should have remained where he was excelling, rather than making the trip to Marseille via Tyneside.
As it is, he will be hoping to kick-start a career that has gone downhill fast since his ill-fated move to St. James’ Park.
