Manchester City’s Wilson is set to replace Lee Congerton at Sunderland.
Sunderland manager David Moyes looks set to receive a helping hand ahead of the winter transfer window.
According to the Sun, the Black Cats are hiring Manchester City talent spotter Simon Wilson as their new director of football – replacing Lee Congerton, who left his post in the summer.
However, although Wilson will reportedly help to identify targets at both first-team and academy levels, the tabloid claims that Moyes will still have “a major say” regarding the club’s transfer dealings.

The arrival of Wilson – who has spent more than a decade at City having previously worked as head of analysis at Southampton, according to his LinkedIn profile – will reportedly lead to the departures of “a couple of senior figures” at Sunderland, with academy chief Ged McNamee one of those being tipped to exit the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland, who returned to the bottom of the Premier League courtesy of Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool, could potentially target Manchester City players following Wilson’s appointment, although they have already filled one of two available slots for loan signings per club with defender/midfielder Jason Denayer.
