Liverpool overcame Sunderland 2-0 this weekend but how did their Senegal international do?
Liverpool overcame a resilient Sunderland side 2-0 at Anfield on Saturday, with second-half goals from Divock Origi and James Milner sealing the points.
The Black Cats had won their last two matches and for a time their rear-guard action suggested they would get at least a point from this season’s top-scorers. However the Reds are a tough team to beat this season and substitute Origi pounced in the 75th minute, before Milner scored with a penalty in injury-time.
One player who was not at his best on Saturday was summer signing Sadio Mane - although he did go on one blistering run that earned the Reds their late spot kick.
The former Southampton star has been one of Liverpool’s key men under manager Jurgen Klopp this season, yet Saturday saw a below-par performance from the electric attacker.
With injury blows for Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho, Mane may be even more important as Liverpool head into the festive period, so fans can forgive him an off-game after his start to his Anfield career.
After the match we took to Twitter to see what Liverpool fans thought of Mane’s latest performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
Mane had an absolute shocker yesterday, but by God that sprint from his own half for the penalty at 90 +1 was fantastic #LFC— Paul Winn (@Paul_Winn) November 27, 2016
@JamesPearceEcho feels like we got away with it today. Mane's streaky form is a bit of a concern for me, need more from him in tight games— EamonnLFC (@lfc_eamonn) November 27, 2016
Noticed Mane didn't get much credit for the run that led to the penalty. Fans were too obsessed in slating him for the poor game he had #LFC— Abs (@nirasol1969) November 26, 2016
I honestly have to admit that I haven't been impressed with Mane's performance in our last 2 games. #LFC— JOSH ™ (@JoshMclenses) November 26, 2016
