The Newcastle United players were training on Friday ahead of this weekend’s match against Blackburn Rovers.

Newcastle will take on Blackburn at St. James’ Park in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The Magpies will head into the match on the back of a 2-0 victory over playoff contenders Leeds United away from home at Elland Road in the league.

Rafael Benitez’s side are at the top of the Championship table at the moment with 40 points from 17 matches.

The Newcastle players were training for the game against Blackburn on Friday, and as the photos below show, the mood in the session was that of optimism.

The players and manager Benitez looked quite happy and upbeat during the session.

With Blackburn third from bottom in the Championship table at the moment, Newcastle have every reason to be optimistic.

Newcastle are looking for a 10th successive win in all competitions for the first time since 1994-95, according to BBC Sport.
