Why Mark Warburton has the steel to take Rangers to glory

If anything is clear for Rangers right now, it's that Mark Warburton is the man to lead them forward.

Whilst some people are doubting the capabilities of Mark Warburton, all you need to do is look to his past in addition to recent decisions that highlight his true ability to get the job done. The 54-year-old gaffer has done everything in his power so far to try and improve the fortunes of the Glasgow-based club, and that includes making big judgement calls.

Just take Joey Barton as a quick example. Much like Mick McCarthy and Roy Keane way back in 2002, Warburton was not going to stand for being disrespected by a player who felt they were bigger than the club. In the case of Rangers especially, nobody deserved that title and the man at the helm let that be known to Barton.

Even this past weekend people criticised a decision that he made that directly impacted the game, but the Ibrox chief stood tall and defended himself in times of trouble. You don't want someone who is going to apologise for every slight error they make - you want somebody who isn't afraid of putting his neck out on the line in order to claim success.

Whether it's guiding them back to the Scottish Premier League or his previous promotion with Brentford, Warburton backs the underdog. That mentality and confidence is something you don't get too often in the managerial landscape, and Rangers need to treasure that.
