Celtic should not get their hopes up regarding a move for Darlington Nagbe, according to a report in the United States.

Nagbe, who plays for Major League Soccer side Portland Timbers, was linked with a move to Celtic by the Scottish Sun this week.

The 26-year-old later uploaded a video from Wednesday night’s Champions League encounter between the Bhoys and Barcelona on Twitter, fuelling speculation that he is set to move to Celtic Park.

According to local news outlet, the Oregonian, however, Timbers expect Nagbe to return for the 2017 MLS season.

The Scottish Sun reported that Nagbe is likely to cost £1.5 million, although it has since been suggested by the Oregonian that this figure would be too low for the United States international, who signed a long-term contract extension in March.

Celtic have also been linked with moves for Brighton and Crystal Palace midfielders Dale Stephens and Jordon Mutch this week.

Nagbe is the son of former Liberia midfielder, Joe Nagbe, who was a teammate of George Weah, the 1995 Ballon d’Or winner.
