The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder still has so much to offer if given a chance.
Today is Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Nabil Bentaleb’s birthday and it is worth remembering that he has only just turned 22.
The Algerian international is currently on loan at German club Schalke after falling down the pecking order at White Hart Lane, but after a slow start he is impressing with four goals in his last five matches.
Such is the strength in depth at Tottenham these days, especially in the centre of the park, that it would be easy to right off Bentaleb. However he is still so young and has so much room for improvement.
When you consider how good he already is, that is an exciting thought for whichever club is lucky enough to have him for the long term.
Bentaleb’s goal-scoring form this season suggests he could have a role to play for Tottenham further forward if he was to return to North London.
After all, they could do with as much creativity and goals as possible as they bid to reach the next level, and if he continues on his current trajectory, Bentaleb could be a superb player by the time he is in his mid-twenties.
He may have been around for a few years but as his 22nd birthday proves he is still just starting out, and writing him off so soon could be a decision Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino regrets if he does sell him on next summer.
