Tottenham Hotspur went out of the Champions League after losing to Monaco last night.
Rio Ferdinand has told BT Sport, during their live coverage of Tottenham Hotspur’s match against Monaco, that Mauricio Pochettino’s side did not look like they even wanted to play in the Champions League last night.
Spurs crashed out of Europe’s top competition yesterday, after putting in a terrible performance against Monaco.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side never got going in France, as they collapsed to a 2-1 defeat.
And Ferdinand said, as quoted by the Daily Mail: “It was an abject display, they didn't look like they even wanted to be there.
“There was no intensity in their play, totally outplayed, outmuscled, outworked by this Monaco team.
“They look a shadow of themselves from last season, last season you would never have seen a Tottenham team get overpowered like this, get outrun. They did not have any ideas here tonight.”
Tottenham went into the game knowing that they had to beat Monaco to stand a chance of progressing from their group.
However, from the offset Spurs struggled to break down Monaco and they fell to a crushing defeat.
Tottenham went behind when Djibril Sidibe headed home for the hosts, but they fired back through Harry Kane.
Spurs’ joy at being back at level terms was short lived, though, as Monaco added a second only moments after Kane had scored and there was no way back for Pochettino’s side.
Tottenham’s final match in the Champions League this season comes against CSKA Moscow at Wembley.
