Crystal Palace may have identified Jordon Mutch’s replacement, if a report in Wednesday’s Sun newspaper is to be believed.

Mutch was linked with a move to Scottish champions Celtic this week, with Palace standing to receive £3.5 million for the midfielder, according to the Daily Mail.

The Sun has since reported, however, that another midfielder could be bound for Selhurst Park in January.

Reading’s Daniel Williams is out of contract next summer, but is yet to open talks with the club he joined in 2013 from Hoffenheim.

The United States international has been one of the Royals’ standout performers this season, with Jaap Stam’s third-place side emerging as surprise promotion contenders.

However, the Sun’s report suggests Williams could be moved on in January, as Reading look to recoup some of the reported £1.7 million fee paid.

Palace, though, could face competition from Premier League rivals Burnley and Swansea City, the latter of whom were recently taken over by a United States consortium.

Williams, 27, narrowly avoided playing under Swansea boss Bob Bradley at international level, making his debut under the American’s successor Jurgen Klinsmann in 2011.
