Glasgow Celtic are set to take on Barcelona in the Champions League later this evening.
John Hartson has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 23rd November, that Glasgow Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted to him that his side will need to put in a performance of a similar quality to the one they did against Manchester City to have any chance of getting a result against Barcelona..
Celtic are set to meet Barca at Parkhead tonight, and the odds are heavily stacked against them picking up a result.
The Bhoys lost 7-0 to Barcelona when the two sides met earlier in the season at the Nou Camp.
However, the Catalan giants are set to be welcomed by a hostile atmosphere at Celtic tonight and Rodgers’ men have already proven that they can compete with some of Europe’s best this season.
Celtic managed to pick up a 3-3 draw with Manchester City back in September, and Rodgers wants his team to put in a similarly passionate performance tonight.
“I was with Brendan at the weekend, and he was saying to me that Celtic need to put in a similar performance to what they put in against Manchester City,” Hartson said.
“The players worked really hard, you need your goalkeeper to play well, and they have a good threat with Dembele and Sinclair - but it’s a formidable ask to beat Barcelona.”
Celtic beat Barcelona at Parkhead back in 2012, when Tony Watt scored the winner in one of the Glasgow club’s most famous European nights.
Celtic go into tonight’s match knowing that they must win one of their remaining matches to stand a chance of moving above Borussia Monchengladbach and into third place in their Champions League group.
