Vurnon Anita has refused to put a timescale on when talks regarding a new contract with Newcastle United will reach a resolution, but insisted that he is currently happy at St James' Park, the Shields Gazette reports.
The 27-year-old has been an important part of Rafael Benitez's plans this season, making 13 appearances in the league to help the Magpies sit five points clear at the top of the Championship after 17 games.
Nevertheless, the utility man is out of contract with Newcastle at the end of the season, and no new deal has so far been agreed, according to the Shields Gazette.
But Anita has insisted that he is solely focused on matters on the pitch currently.

"No, no," he said, as reported by the Shields Gazette, when asked if there was a timescale regarding getting an extension agreed.
"It's only been a couple of talks so far, but further than that, nothing yet."
"I'm happy, you can see it on the pitch because on the pitch you only ever see my smiley face, so I'm good," he would later add.

Though the Dutchman has perhaps not been grabbing the headlines in the same way that Dwight Gayle or Jonjo Shelvey have, his consistency has arguably made him an incredibly valuable member of the squad.
And his ability to play in most roles as if it is his strongest position will undoubtedly be a big help if, as many expect, Newcastle go on to secure promotion and return to the Premier League at the end of the campaign.
