David Moyes wants to bring Yann M’Vila back to Sunderland from Rubin Kazan in January, the Sun reports.

M’Vila, who spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light, had looked set to return in August only for talks between the two clubs to break down, leaving the Frenchman stranded at London’s Heathrow Airport.

With his contract widely thought to be up at the end of December, Sunderland were tipped to land M’Vila on a free transfer when the transfer window reopens.

However, the Sun’s report bypasses M’Vila’s contract situation entirely, and suggests that another loan deal is instead on the cards.

Do they know something we don’t, or have they simply failed in their research?

Regardless of the above, the Sun’s suggestion that M’Vila would move to Sunderland until the end of the season initially would certainly make sense given the Mackems’ current predicament.

As far as loans are concerned, Sunderland have been guilty of over-committing in the past, resulting in them paying sizeable fees for unwanted players such as Santiago Vergini and Ricky Alvarez.

The report adds that Moyes will be handed funds to strengthen his squad in January, with midfield a priority.
