HITC Sport understands the Black Cats will spend big in the New Year
Sunderland’s hierarchy have persuaded owner Ellis Short to dig deep in the January transfer window as he will provide at least a £20million war chest to try and keep them in the top-flight, HITC Sport has been told by sources.
After meetings at the club over the course of this month, whilst also confirming they are in no hurry to part company with David Moyes, even after he oversaw the worst start to a Premier League season by any club, they also hammered out a new transfer policy for January.
The new kitty will not have to swallow up wages, and will be overseen whoever is in charge in January, although everything points to the club sticking with Moyes – who guided them to their first win of the season at Bournemouth at the weekend.

A source told HITC Sport: “Everyone at the club knows things can’t carry on without some investment and word has come that there will be a good size pot to spend in January.”
Owner Short had previously been unwilling to dig so deep but with the perilous situation currently embroiling the club he felt action had to be taken.
The American businessman, who has been linked with selling the club, knows he needs them to make more of an impact to help attract a possible buyer with Championship football looking more and more likely next season.
However, Sunderland bosses believe they can mount another battle against the drop and feel an extra push will give them and fans a huge boost in the New Year.
