Report: West Ham rule out loan move for Leeds target Ashley Fletcher, unless this happens

Leeds had been one of a number of clubs interested in the West Ham striker, according to reports.

A report in The Sun has claimed that West Ham United will not allow Ashley Fletcher to leave the club on loan during the January transfer window, unless they manage to sign another striker.

The Sun reports that Leeds United and a host of Championship clubs were interested in taking the 21-year-old on a temporary deal in the coming months, but it now appears that they may have to switch their attention to other targets.

That is because The Sun are now suggesting that the Hammers are not prepared to let the former Manchester United trainee leave without their attacking ranks being bolstered beforehand.

The Sun adds that the Irons' need for as many forwards as possible may intensify given that they determined to ensure that current loanee Simone Zaza does not play the 14 games he needs to feature in for his move to become a permanent one.

The Italian has struggled since his arrival in the summer, but should he reach a certain number of appearances, West Ham would be obliged to pay an eye-watering £20m (via The Sun).

Though Fletcher is yet to open his account for Slaven Bilic's side either, he has often looked bright when he has featured so it is arguably hardly surprising that they appear to be more optimistic about the youngster's prospects than Zaza's.
