Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly set to compete for Marseille youngster Maxime Lopez.

A report emanating from France today suggests that both Arsenal and Liverpool are interested in signing Marseille teenager Maxime Lopez, a player labelled the new Samir Nasri, as reported by French media outlet Le Parisien.

The 18-year-old has been at the Ligue 1 side for the entirety of his career, and has made five league appearances for his club this season, chipping in with one assist.

His playing style has drawn high acclaim, and he is one of the most highly sought after youngsters in European football.

His obvious talent has not gone unnoticed, after he was rewarded for his impressive form with a call-up to the France under-20 setup for their upcoming internationals.

The comparisons between Lopez and Nasri come not only from their similar playing styles, but also their comparable upbringings – which, in turn, has helped develop the youngster’s competitive edge on the football field.

With fierce competition for places at both the Gunners and Liverpool already, it is unlikely that a move will happen anytime soon, however, and it would be to the benefit of Lopez’ development for him to stay with Marseille for the time being while he gains experience and more regular first-team football.
