Derby County are reportedly close to snapping up midfielder Diego Poyet.
According to The Sun, free agent midfielder Diego Poyet is close to signing a deal with Derby County, having left West Ham United back in August.
Poyet, 21, was born in Spain as father Gustavo Poyet was playing for Real Zaragoza, but he began his playing career in England in the ranks of Charlton Athletic.

After just 23 appearances for the Addicks, Poyet joined West Ham United, and showed some promise in his three Premier League appearances in the 2014/15 season before heading out on loan to Huddersfield Town.
However, Poyet spent last season on loan at Milton Keynes Dons and Charlton Athletic, and with major competition for places at the London Stadium, West Ham decided to terminate Poyet’s contract and make him a free agent on deadline day back in August.

The holding midfielder – who was once at the centre of a three-way tug-of-war for his international allegiance between England, Spain and Uruguay – has been without a club ever since, but could be on the verge of a move.
The Sun report that Poyet is close to completing a move to join Derby County as the first signing of Steve McClaren’s second spell in charge of the Rams.

With George Thorne still out injured, McClaren appears to be keen on signing cover in holding midfield, and it’s claimed that youngster Poyet is on the verge of signing a contract until the end of the season.
Having been released before the deadline, Poyet can sign for a club outside of the transfer window, and would offer Derby an immediate option in midfield alongside the likes of Craig Bryson, Bradley Johnson, Jacob Butterfield, Will Hughes and Jamie Hanson should the deal go through.
