After a summer transfer window which left fans utterly disappointed, Everton will no doubt be looking at January and next summer as a crucial time to add strength and depth to key areas.
With that said, Koeman will need to get rid of those who are simply not performing. Here's three players who have to impress Koeman this season to avoid leaving Merseyside.
After a promising pre-season, people’s expectations of Mirallas have certainly not been met this campaign. The arrival of Yannick Bolasie has meant competition for places in attack. The winger should be putting in stellar performances each week and fighting for a place in Koeman's starting XL.
Surprisenly, the Belgium international has started many games this season. Mirallas work-rare has been questioned by Koeman. Judging from the 29-year-old's performances, his work rate is a problem. The winger's talent has never been questioned, at 29 he should be in the prime of his career, instead Mirallas is putting in average performances. Koeman should take action and drop Mirallas for Saturday's game against Chelsea.
There are a lot of similarities between Deulofeu and Mirallas - with both playing in the same position and failing to add anything to the squad this season. Deulofeu in particular is infuriating to watch. His pace and ability should be enough to scare any Premier League player yet he hasn't done anything this season.
The Spaniard's main problem is his failure to run and tackle hard enough with the ball - something that Koeman wants from the winger. Deulofeu's failure to comply with this has often seen him left on the bench. The 22-year-old must listen and learn from Koeman, otherwise the Spaniard could be gone by next season.
Tom Cleverley is a solid and reliable player but he is not a game changer. The midfielder hasn't got an obvious position on the pitch and is quite limited, he had a lot of potential a few years ago but not anymore. If Everton want to get into the top four then they need a player who can score goals and bring something to the side.
Koeman likes strong, fast and physical players. Cleverley is someone you would only bring on to keep hold of a lead not to win a game. The 27-year-old's time at Everton could soon be up.
