Ipswich Town are considering a move for Andy Boyle.

Ipswich Town are weighing up a move for newly capped Republic of Ireland international Andy Boyle, HITC Sport understands.

Sources close to the situation understand the Championship side have joined Barnsley in the hunt for Boyle's signature, whose interest HITC Sport reported last month.

Boyle plays for Irish side Dundalk, and has been a regular in their Europa League run.

The centre-back is set to feature this evening for the club away to Russian side Zenit St Peterburg.

Despite recently helping Dundalk to the league title, Boyle's contract is set to expire in December, meaning he will become a free agent.

His recent form for his club saw him called into Martin O'Neill's latest Republic of Ireland squad this week, which could intensify the race for his signature.

The 25-year-old could be tempted to join former Irish boss Mick McCarthy at Ipswich, who have had a disappointing start to the season.

The Tractor Boys sit in 16th place with just four wins, although do have a relatively strong defensive record, conceding just 14 goals in 15 games.
