Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has spoken at his press conference this afternoon, revealing that he tried to sign James Tomkins for Newcastle United.
Pardew managed Newcastle for four years between 2010 and 2014, and he wanted to bring Tomkins in from West Ham United.
However, back then, Pardew’s attempts to sign Tomkins did not pay off, as West Ham were determined to keep hold of the centre-back.
Pardew did finally managed to get his man last summer, when he brought Tomkins to Palace.
And the 55-year-old manager is delighted to have finally landed Tomkins. He said: “Tomkins is a great player, I tried to sign him a few times at Newcastle. He's doing very well for us.”

Tomkins has made a bright start to life at Palace, and he has become an important part of Pardew’s side already.
Tomkins will come up against his former side, West Ham, for the first time tomorrow.
Palace are set to take on West Ham at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon, and they will be looking to extend their unbeaten streak to six matches.
