Crystal Palace defender James Tomkins has warned his team not to underestimate West Ham United this weekend, speaking to the Croydon Advertiser.

Tomkins left the Hammers in the summer transfer window, making a big money move to join Alan Pardew’s team.

Since then he has seen his former side endure a disappointing start to the campaign, picking up just one win in their first seven games.

This weekend sees him take on his former team for the first time since leaving as Slaven Bilic’s side travel to Selhurst Park.

The home side will be confident of success because of the Hammers poor form but Tomkins has warned his new teammates not to underestimate their opponents.

"They haven't been so good lately but I know how good they can be on their day," he told the Croydon Advertiser.

"I am sure I'll be telling the lads at Palace all about them. I can't put my finger on why they have been struggling. It could be a number of things.”

Tomkins is certainly wise to warn Palace about West Ham with their form not indicative of the quality they have.

Indeed, that quality was on show before the international break courtesy of Dimitri Payet’s superb solo goal against Middlesbrough.

The Frenchman looked like he was getting back to his best in that game and Alan Pardew’s side would be unwise to underestimate either him or his Hammers teammates.
