According to Tutto Mercato Web, Tottenham Hotspur’s talks with Corinthians over a deal for left back Guilherme Arana went well on Tuesday.

Spurs have two international left backs in their ranks with Danny Rose and Ben Davies competing for first-team football at White Hart Lane, but manager Mauricio Pochettino may yet want to bring in a younger left back to develop.

Early on Tuesday, Tutto Mercato Web reported that Tottenham were meeting for talks with Brazilian side Corinthians over a deal to sign left back Guilherme Arana, but faced competition from German side Schalke for his signature.

Arana, 19, has come up through the ranks with Corinthians having joined them way back in 2005, and has now made 26 appearances for the Brazilian giants, whilst he also spent time out on loan at Atletico Paranaense in 2015.

A pacey left back with crossing ability, Arana has made two appearances for Brazil’s Under-20’s, and it appears that his performances and potential have triggered major interest.

A matter of hours after Tutto Mercato Web’s original report, they reported that Tottenham’s talks with Corinthians went well, and the player is now interested in a move to White Hart Lane – though he hasn’t yet opened contract talks with Spurs.

It’s claimed that Tottenham are now willing to continue negotiations in a bid to tie up a deal for Arana, which could be something that Spurs attempt to complete in January.

Should Spurs manage to sign Arana – and beat Schalke to his signature – they will be hoping and praying that he has more success at White Hart Lane than other Brazilians to have played for the club, such as Gilberto and Paulinho.
