Steve Bruce is expected to be the next manager of the Championship club, and is reportedly already considering transfer targets.
With Steve Bruce set to become the new manager at Aston Villa, the Daily Mirror reported that the former Hull boss could look at bringing one of his former players to Villa Park with him.
Ahmed Elmohamady is the man in question and is a favourite of Bruce’s, having worked with the Egyptian at Hull and Sunderland, but how does the right back compare to the options Aston Villa already have in that position?
The stats below show how Elmohamady has compared to Leandro Bacuna and Alan Hutton since the start of last season.
| Team | Tackles Won | Duels Won | Chances Created | Total Clearances | Fouls | Passing Accuracy | Assists | Goals | Appearances | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Leandro Bacuna | Aston Villa | 59 | 148 | 25 | 75 | 51 | 77% | 1 | 1 | 40 |
| Alan Hutton | Aston Villa | 44 | 143 | 23 | 58 | 30 | 75% | 1 | 0 | 30 |
| Ahmed Elmohamady | Hull | 43 | 276 | 76 | 66 | 27 | 75% | 6 | 3 | 50 |
The 29-year-old has featured in every game bar one for Hull this season, missing the defeat against Chelsea through suspension after being sent off against Liverpool.
The stats show how much more of an attacking threat Elmohamady is at right back, creating three times as many chances as Hutton and Bacuna respectively, scoring six goals and providing three assists during Hull’s season in the Championship last year which saw them promoted via the playoffs.

The Egypt international has won more duels since last season began, but Bacuna is ahead when it comes to tackles won and clearances made. For all the challenges the Dutch defender has won, he has committed the most fouls out of the three.
Elmohamady has shown how good a player he a can be in the Championship, and although Bacuna beats him in certain areas, the arrival of the Egyptian would surely be a good move for Bruce, as he looks to guide Villa back to the Premier League.
